Display & Language Support
"Characters from a certain language are not displayed correctly."
SpeedBase user interface supports English language only.
For data entry/display/print purposes, you may use any language which uses latin alphabet but note that,
using multiple languages of non-latin alphabets is not fully supported.
If you are unable to display your local language or an additional language correctly, try one or more of the following recommendations
to fix the issue:
- For Windows 10/11, click Start > Settings > Time & Language > Language.
Choose a language from the Add a language list under "Preferred Languages" section and add the language pack.
- For Windows 10/11, click Start > Settings > Time & Language > Language. Click "Administrative" section.
For previous versions of Windows, open control panel and then open Regional and Language settings. Open "Advanced" window.
Change language setting for non-unicode programs to the language which you are unable to display correctly.
Beware that this change may impact language compatibility of other software you have installed on your computer as well.
- Open SpeedBase, click "Database" menu, select "Preferences", Select "Font & Colors" section. Check the box "Use custom font".
Select a font name which supports the language you would like to use for data entry.
- Right click SpeedBase shortcut icon, select "Open File Location", you should see a file named "startup" inside the installation folder.
Open that file with Notepad and add the following line at the end:
localcharset=238
The code given above improves compatibility with East European languages. To find out the code required for other languages families, consult
this page.
- Open either Form Designer or
Report Designer window depending on where you are unable display characters correctly.
Right click the desired object, select "Properties". Click "Font" and then set the language for the text shown on that object.
You should try this only if none of the recommendations given above has worked.
* You may need to login to Windows using an account with administrative privileges to make the changes given above.
* You may need to restart SpeedBase or restart your computer before the changes can take effect.
"Some text is displayed in too large or too small size."
- Try changing the font name and/or size SpeedBase uses for the user interface.
You can make this modification from the "Fonts & Colors" section of preferences window.
If the text creating the issue is part of a data field, you may also change the font properties of that individual
data field from Form Designer window.
- If you have adjusted your computer to a high DPI setting, try choosing a DPI setting
from one of the following whichever is closest to your current setting: 100%, 106%, 115%, 125%, 135%, 150%.
